The stalks stream to the surface supported by the small gastropods that stick out from the leaf stalks like grapes. Swimming into a kelp forest whether it’s your first time or your hundredth is always an experience. As the leaves close in around you the heart rate accelerates with the thrill of moving through such a different environment. Most recreational diving is a relatively 2-dimensional experience, but in a kelp forest, you’re exploring a world in three dimensions. Instead of focusing on the sea floor below a translucent water column, you’re immersed in a kelp column with life all around. by Chistopher Robinson Boat Schedule

![]() Enriched Air / Nitrox Certification Night at Eco on April 11th 7pm Raise your hand if you’d like to have longer no-stop bottom time! It always seems like the best dives have to end the fastest so it’s no secret why the PADI Enriched Air/Nitrox Diver course is the most popular specialty certification going—it’s all about more bottom time.
In the Enriched Air/Nitrox course you’ll learn how to select the best mixture for your planned depth, how to analyze the mixture for safety and how to determine your oxygen exposure limits after each dive. You’ll also learn about the special equipment concerns that arise when you’re using higher oxygen percentages.

New Team Member - Kristy "Krusher" Moser - InstructorI've always been a water kid involved in swimming, water polo, surfing, and sailing... but diving is a completely different and fascinating world. Weeks after becoming an Openwater diver, I grabbed a position as a galley chef on a Southern California dive boat. Every break from the kitchen, I was in the water, exploring a wide range of sites and encountering amazing sea life. This experience inspired me to share my passion and also help preserve the unique diversity of the Channel Islands. Eventually I became an instructor and spent some time traveling through Australia, then working in the British Virgin Islands. The tropical scene is fabulous, but I had to return to my SoCal diving home. The only thing that makes me happier than cruising through a kelp forest watching sea lions play, is taking my students down and watching their excitement! Oil Rig Dives - Eureka and the Ellen on May 13th- The oil rigs that dot the Southern California coastline from Huntington Beach to Santa Barbara are blight on the seascape. But to paraphrase an old cliche, sometimes ugliness is only skin deep. Underwater the not-so-attractive structures provide habitat for an enormous array of diverse wildlife. Anemones encrust the metal posts, pelagic fish cruise about and marine mammals occasionally swim through foraging for food and checking out the intrepid divers blowing bubbles in the dark water. While recreational divers will have plenty to see, the rigs are also prized by tec divers who have the training and equipment to take advantage of the deep water. Oil rig dives are for advanced and tec divers only and require proof of dive accident insurance such as DAN. Advanced Dive Trips
![]() Farnsworth Wall Dives on May 19th There are a few local dive sites that call for recreational divers to be at the top of their game. On the back side of Catalina, far from the crowds at Casino Point, there's a pinnacle that's famous among advanced divers up and down the coast. Farnsworth Bank comes into view at 65 feet below the surface and seems to drop off to the center of the earth. While there's an abundance of uncommon wildlife to be seen, the rarest gems that emerge as you descend into the clear water are the tree-like pink and purple California hydrocoral. Farnsworth is an advanced-only dive. Advanced Dive Trips 4 Saturday Dives aboard the Spectre on May 19th- But you really want to go diving on May 19th? Okay.
