Newsletter - Summer 2006

The conditions at the Channel Islands are the warmest & most clear in years!
No algae mid-water and no red tide. You have too see for yourself!
TODAY: Catalina had a surface temp of 76 & 80+ft visibility.
TODAY: Anacapa Island had 70 degree water with 70+ft visibility.
While the conditions are great for diving, the warmer waters may have a dramatic impact on the future of our local diving.
Check it out: Is it too warm?

Adventurous Dives for the Advanced Diver - 09/02
Kick off the Labor Day Weekend with a morning of excellent dives at Farnsworth Banks. This dive site off the back side of
Catalina is a favorite of many divers. The Island Time will get you out to Farnsworth before any other dive boats
come into the area with a 6:00 AM departure. This very fast boat will have you back on the docks after two dives
around 1:00 PM. The depths are incredible and the currents can be tricky, so advanced divers only please.
Proof of certification and DAN protection will be required. Call for bookings.

See Fish. Touch Fish. Smell Fish. Dissect Fish. 09/05
The next meeting of Eco Divers on Tuesday, September 5, will feature an interactive presentation by marine queen
Laura Bodensteiner of the Santa Monica Baykeeper. Each buddy team will get to dissect
a fish (Markrel) with Laura. Make sure you RSVP to (310) 398-5759 and reserve your fish.

Were very excited to now offer the two best rated fins, the Atomic Split Fin and the
Apollo Split Fin. While some are produced with a plastic rubber compound, the
Apollo Bio-Fin series is the only split fin produced with 100% rubber.

Two Day Adventure to San Nicolas Island-09/23 & 24th / Over 10 dives.
San Nic has always been one of the least dived Channel Islands because it is so far offshore. As a result, the island was legendary for the large red abalone and spiny lobsters it produced. If you have got a dive trip planned to San Nic , go with a boatload of good friends, a good book or both. Charter dive boats usually leave at 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. the night before in order to be there at 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. While youll sleep most of the way there, its a BLAST!

The legs of the super structure are just covered in life.
Bright Yellow Sponges, Red Sea Fans, Scallops and tons of different fish.
