More About Me
Originally from Sacramento CA, I moved San Luis Obispo in 1998 to attend college at Cal Poly. Immediately I fell in love with the ocean and have been in the water ever since. During school, I joined the NCAA swim team and became a beach lifeguard. After graduating, I needed a new adventure so I got scuba certified in Santa Barbara, and diving quickly became my life. I took a job working in the galley of a Ventura dive boat and was lucky enough to visit some crazy sites in the outer Channel Islands. Not only did I build up some hard-core sea legs, but it completely hooked me on the underwater world. Every time I could escape cooking and washing dishes, I was suited up and diving in.

The next year, I decided to go exploring and backpacked for a few months up the east coast of Australia, diving all the way. Wrecks, live-aboards, the Great Barrier Reef… I couldn’t get enough. Eventually I got a job as a scuba instructor on Tortola (British Virgin Islands) and embraced the whole tropical experience. Living on a sailboat, I spent every day jetting between islands, picking up divers and guiding them on famous dive sites. Soon my Caribbean pirate stories and ship wreck legends became second nature.

The BVI’s were amazing, but after a year, I was ready to come home. There is nothing that compares to an early morning dive off of Catalina as the sunlight trickles down through the kelp forest. I’ve been full-time with Eco Dive Center since May 2007 and I love my job! You can find me in the shop during the week and usually in the pool or on a boat teaching on the weekends.

Stats

Diving since 2002
250 logged dives

I’m sailing, surfing, camping, biking, hanging with family & friends, or reading. (preferably travel / adventure or true biographies).

Favorite Dives

  1. Cortes Banks (California )

A sea mount way out – 100 miles from San Diego (nearly in Mexico) . The visibility was 80-100 feet, the kelp forests were untouched, and the lobsters were just cruising around.

  1. Farnsworth Bank (Catalina)

This pinnacle starts at 65 ft. off the backside of Catalina. I hit the water at 6am, just after sunrise. A school of bait fish was circling as I descended… so beautiful and peaceful!

  1. “HMS Rhone” ship wreck ( British Virgin Islands)

Off of Salt Island in the BVI- 310 feet long, she went down in 1867 in a class 5 hurricane. The bow is still intact in 90 ft. and it is covered in coral and marine life. The resident 6 ft. barracuda is named ‘Spike’.

4. “S.S. Yongala” ship wreck (Australia)

Off of Townsville, Australia. She sank in 1911 and has become an artificial reef surrounded by sand. I encountered sea snakes, reef sharks, and a grouper the size of a car… apparently they call him VW.

My Gear

BCD- Sea Quest “Libra”
I started using the Libra 2 yrs ago and it has treated me well ever since. The simple, back inflation design keeps me streamline and balanced, while the back support provides extra comfort

Regulator – Apex “Tungsten”
This reg. is indestructible. I use it for classes every weekend and it stands up to the challenge. It is balanced and breathes well at all depths…and she is a beauty.

Wetsuit- Aqualung “Aquaflex” full 7mm

Everyone has experienced the pain of squeezing into wetsuits. I used to allow 20 minutes to get suited up, the Aquaflex only takes me 30 seconds to put on… enough said.

Fins- Atomic “Split Fins”

These fins go easy on the legs, but still provide a powerful kick. Since I do all kinds of diving, they offer the flexibility that I need

In the Future
I am extremely happy where I am at the moment. Southern California is my home, but I will never stop traveling. I would also like to continue my diving education and achieve more specialties, especially in photography.
