Instructor Development Certification Course

PADI

It’s about to get real. You’ve got your buoyancy on point, you’ve got a slick dive kit, and your dive log is thicker than an In-n-Out milkshake. The next step is to pass on your scuba skills to the next generation of divers as a PADI open water scuba instructor. We hold our instructors to a high standard here at Eco Dive Center, and our Instructor Development Course (IDC) is designed to bring out the best in our candidates. It’s a challenging course and the requirements are demanding, but under the guidance of our veteran course directors you’ll come out with a great set of friends and your best scuba skills yet

Your journey begins here with the PADI Instructor course. As the first part of the Instructor Development Course, we nurture students with great mentorship and real-life experience teaching scuba diving. Becoming a great teacher is as much about knowing the material as it is about empathy, engaging with your students, and spreading your passion for the underwater environment. Our veteran team of instructors have decades of cumulative experience, and work hard to impart their wisdom unto incoming instructors.

We highly encourage our students to help with classes as much as they can before their Instructor Examination. Diving with a buddy may be second nature by now, but no one is ever totally ready for the kind of challenges that come with leading a class of students in the ocean for the first time! Learning on the job means more diving, more time in the water, and more time with your dive buddies - everyone wins.

Forming bonds with other instructors and learning their teaching styles is a rewarding experience, and the best way to develop and mature a style that is your own. Taking your diving to new depths and enroll today.

Once they pass their Instructor Exam, will become bona fide instructors in their own right.

You'll learn:

  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations

The sections:

  • Academic Training
        · Discover Scuba Diving and Snorkeling Programs
        · Developing Knowledge Development Presentations
        · Teaching Project AWARE and Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialties
        · Teaching in Confined Water
        · Conducting Open Water Training Presentations
  • Independent Study (online and in the classroom)
        · Knowledge Development
  • Practical Application
        · Confined Water and Open Water Teaching Presentations
        · Standards Exam
        · Dive Rescue Skills Assessment
  • Internship  - Hands on with real students

We highly recommend that our instructor candidates own all their own gear. Familiarity with your own set up translates into better dive skills and a more professional presentation. Not to mention the added benefit of looking totally bad-ass.

So what will you actually learn through your IDC? We will prepare you for the Instructor Exam (IE) at PADI headquarters in Orange County. People fly in from all over to get their instructor certification, but this is our home turf, and Eco candidates are always at the top of the class. We expect our candidates to be dedicated to learning their skills and knowing the content back and forth because the IE is only the beginning of a career in scuba.

The IE weekend is conducted at PADI HQ on Saturday, then at Casino Point on Sunday. Saturday’s session includes your written exam (physics, physiology, equipment, and PADI policies) and your pool skill session, where you will be tested on your ability to demonstrate confined water skills in a simulated class. Sundaytakes you to the ocean, where you’re expected to conduct open water skills to PADI standards.
