You can lead, you can follow or you can get out of the way. For divers who are up for the challenge and have the desire to lead, the PADI Divemaster course will guide you on your way to being professional-level scuba diver. As a certified Divemaster you’ll be ready to work at dive centers and on dive boats including tropical live-aboards. You will assist PADI instructors with student divers, lead divers on local guided tours and lead certified divers in local discovery dives.
Many instructors say the Divemaster course was the most challenging program in their overall training. That’s no accident. Becoming a Divemaster takes you into the elite of the diving community. There are three modules that make up the course: Knowledge Development, Water Skills and Practical Application. Timed swims, watermanship exercises, academic sessions covering physics, physiology and equipment, assisting instructors...these are among the things you’ll learn as you progress through the course on your way to being a PADI professional.
As a PADI Certified Divemaster you will be a member of the world’s largest and most recognized professional diving organization. PADI Divemasters are in demand the world over. Prerequisites
- Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver or Equivalent
- Medical clearance signed by a physician
- Minimum of 20 logged dives (60 to graduate)
- 18 years old
What can PADI Divemasters do?
- Work at local dive centers, on live-aboard dive boats and exotic resort locations
- Assist PADI Instructors with students
- Lead PADI Scuba Divers on guided dive tours
- Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers
- Teach PADI Discover Snorkeling programs
- Conduct PADI Scuba Review programs for certified divers
- Lead certified divers on Discover Local Diving experiences
- Teach Emergency First Response programs after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course.
Discussions
Twelve Academic topics will be covered and there will be eight exams. Topics include: Physics, Physiology, Diving Equipment, Supervising Certified Divers, Risk management, Business of Diving, Diving Career, Role of the Divemaster, Supervising Students in Training, Skills and Environment, and the Recreational Dive Planner, and the Theory of Diving.
Confined Water Sessions
Waterman ship and Skills Assessment include: 400yd swim (timed), 800yd snorkel (timed), 100yd inert diver tow (timed), 15 minute tread water, Basic Diving Skills Circuit, Rescue Evaluation and Buddy Breathing Equipment Exchange.
Open Water Sessions
Each candidate will be required to submit an emergency plan and a map of a local diving site.
