Emergency First Response: Convenient, Effective and Invaluable CPR Training!

Training to manage medical emergencies is critical for any responsible SCUBA diver and invaluable for just about everyone else!  Non-professional responders are called upon to perform CPR more than a third of the time during cardiac arrest and thousands of lives have been saved by trained "lay responders".  Are you ready to act?

Eco Dive Center is proud to offer the Emergency First Response® course in Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) as well as Care for Children and Instructor-level training.  The Emergency First Response® program is an easy, flexible program focused on the fundamentals of emergency responder care.  We teach a comprehensive program which integrates oxygen administration, the use and effectiveness of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and a fully-complementary program with DAN (Divers Alert Network) emergency care courses.

The Emergency First Response®  courses -- or EFR as we usually call it -- are part of the fastest growing international CPR, AED and first aid training programs.  All of our instructors are trained and certified to offer EFR programs, and Eco Dive Center has several EFR Instructor Trainers on staff.  The EFR program is based on patient care standards as revised and published in the American Heart Association Guidelines 2005 and with the consensus view of the BLS Working Group of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).  What does all of this mean?  That your EFR Certification is based on international and national standards and will be recognized by nearly all major health and safety programs throughout the world.

As divers, the EFR program is important.  It trains us to respond to emergency situations we might encounter on dive boats, along the shore, at a dive center, or while traveling to remote destinations throughout the world.  Plus, the EFR program perfectly complements the Rescue Diver course offered by Eco Dive Center and fulfills the prerequisite requirement for PADI's Rescue Diver certification.

Our EFR courses are taught at least once a month and are offered in the evenings at Eco Dive Center's training facility.  But our program can be brought to you or your workplace.  We can teach the class to school and church groups, to divers on dive trips, to families or sports teams.  The EFR program is flexible, affordable, accessible and fun.  And it's designed for everyone!

Emergency First Response Primary Care & Secondary Course:  $85 / Scheduled Monthly and Available on Request

Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) teaches participants how to respond to life-threatening emergencies. The course focuses on primary care through a combination of knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice to make sure participants have the confidence in their ability to provide care when emergency situations arise. Primary Care (CPR) skills taught in this course:

Scene Safety Assessment

Universal Precautions

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Conscious and Unconscious Obstructed Airway Management

Serious Bleeding Management

Shock Management

Spinal Injury Management

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Emergency Oxygen Use Orientation.

Emergency First Response Secondary Care (first aid) covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life threatening. Participants focus on secondary assessment and first aid through knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice.

Refresher Course:  $70 / Scheduled Monthly and Available on Request

The EFR Certification -- like most CPR/First Aid training certifications -- requires renewal every 2 years.  The EFR Refresher Course allows emergency providers the opportunity to practice their skills and learn about new developments since their first class.  The Refresher course is convenient and flexible and will keep you in tune with the field of emergency preparedness.  Eco Dive Center offers the EFR Refresher at least once a month.

Emergency First Response Instructor Course:  $175 plus EFRI Books/ Scheduled Quarterly

During the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you will build on your skill as an Emergency Responder and focus on developing your instructional abilities to teach these skills to others. The Instructor course provides you with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid) and Care for Children courses. Through a multi-media approach of independent study, classroom sessions and practical teaching assignments, you learn to conduct Emergency First Response courses.

The instructor course covers specific goals and performance requirements for the Primary Care, Secondary Care and Care for Children courses, along with instruction on how to structure learning, the requirements of performance-based training, and your role as the instructor in the learning environment. You also learn how to motivate students, evaluate student knowledge, present course content effectively, become proficient in developing students' hands-on skills practice sessions, and are taught how to present an effective scenario-based learning experience.

Prerequisites:  To enter the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you must be 18 years old and have completed adult, child and infant CPR and first aid training in the past 24 months or a be a practicing medical professional such as a physician, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic and Registered Nurse.
